Relationship between Marital Satisfaction and Mental Healthamong University Students

The present study aims to investigate the relationship between marital satisfaction and mentalhealth of married students of Islamic Azad University of Gorgan city in northern Iran. Theresearch methodology is based on correlation. The study population consisted of all studentsstudying during the academic year 2013-2014 in Gorgan Islamic Azad University amongwhom 200 were selected as the statistical samples using simple random sampling. Data fromthe General Health Questionnaire and the marital satisfaction questionnaire was used. Inaddition, descriptive statistics (tables and graphs) and inferential statistics (PearsonCorrelation Coefficient and independent t-groups) were used to analyze the data. The resultsof this study show that there is a significant relationship between the couples’ maritalsatisfaction and mental health and the females’ marital satisfaction and mental health;however, there was no significant relationship between the males’ marital satisfaction andmental health. Moreover, there is no significant difference between marital satisfaction andmental health among men and women.
