چکیده مقاله:

In biotechnology a major field of discussion is Genetically Modified (GM) organisms. New medical, political , ethical and religious discussions arise over the production and consumption of these organisms. Different consumer surveys conducted in the USA, Japan, and Europe showed that consumer’s perceptions about GM foods are strongly influenced by the type of information they received , their confidence in government, and cultural preferences. This article summarizes the current situation with regard to biotechnology , with a particular focus on GM foods. In addition a survey was done on the students of Yazd university to assess their knowledge and opinion on the dangers of opportunities of genetic modification. It seems that public knowledge about biotechnology is low in Iran and more efforts are needed to improve their understanding of different aspects of biotechnology.
