In this study and for the first time, the modification of an epoxy-based paint with titania-silica nanoparitcleswas proceeded in order to improve its corrosion-resistance property. Sol-gel method was used for the synthesis of thedesired nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the correct formation of Ti–O–Sivibration band and the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated an almost uniform distribution ofnanoparticles in epoxy. For attaining the most anti-corrosive behavior of the nano paint, the hybrid product wasformulated in three ratios of pigment to binder as: 0.01, 0.03, and 0.05. The prepared nano paints were sprayed oncarbon steel panels and the samples were exposed to salt fog for 336 h. The sample containing P/B=0.01, showed thebest corrosion resistance. Finally the mechanical properties of the better sample were verified under scratch and impacttests and the results were also satisfying.
