چکیده مقاله:

Boron is an inorganic element that has a high melting point, low density, high hardness, thermal stabilityand optical properties. These properties make boron powders an attractive prospect for practical applications in manyfields. In this paper, a safe new method for preparation of boron nanoparticle is introduced. The process was carried outusing stoichiometric amounts of B2O3 and Mg powders as initial materials (10.35g). Milling was done under argonatmosphere in a planetary ball mill with a constant ball-to-powder ratio (30:1) for 5 hours. The rotational speed of vialwas about 540 rpm. Milled products were leached by hydrochloric acid (28 w/w%, twice) and then were washed toremove the by-product and impurities. Temperature measurement was exhibited that process can be done in selfpropagatingreaction mode by planetary ball mill in the conditions. EDS and SEM analyses were used for investigationof the final product characteristics. The experimental results showed that elemental boron with purity about 90 wt% canbe prepared in the mentioned conditions. Furthermore, SEM image demonstrated that particle size of elemental boronwas in nanoscale range between 87 to 118 nm.
