Study on Impact Behaviour of Un-vulcanized and Dynamically Vulcanized PP/EPDM/CNT

The impact strength of un- vulcanized and dynamically vulcanized PP/EPDM/MWCNT nanocompositeswith and without PP-g-MA was investigated. The results showed that addition of EPDM and vulcanization of blend,increase impact strength through strengthen interface of two phase and increase cleavage stress of EPDM particles. AlsoPP-g-MA act as a compatibilizer between PP and EPDM phase and increase fracture toughness of these blends.Incorporation of CNT into PP/EPDM blends further increase impact resistance through changing crystallizationbehaviour of matrix. Also morphological observations indicated that nanotubes breakage and nanotubes pull out aredominant failure mode in PP/EPDM/CNT and PP/EPDM/CNT/PP-g-MA respectively. In PP/EPDM/CNT/PP-g-MAblend-nanocomposites PP-g-MA has three different functions that competition between these three mechanismsdetermines impact strength of blend-nanocomposites.
