Unique Microstructural Characteristics in Nanostructured Bainitic Steels Resulting in Super Strength – Ductility Combinations

It is vital to characterize the microstructural features in nanostructured bainitic steels which is the criticalfactor influencing their extraordinary mechanical properties. This article aims to study the nanostructurebainiteobtained in two high carbon steels with different amount of Mn, Ni and V. Results indicate that, it is possible togain an extra ordinary nanoscale of 20 to 70 nm bainitic subunits which intimately interweaved with high carbonretained austenite of similar size. Moreover, the effects of the chemical composition and heat treatment temperatureon the microstructural features have been illustrated.
