STUDY ON THE HISTORICAL CYCLONE INDUCED STORMSURGES AND EFFECTIVENESS OF EXISTING BIO-SHIELDPROTECTION ALONG THE COASTAL BELT OFBANGLADESH

Bangladesh has a coastal belt of about 710 km long from Raimongal River to the westand Teknaf to the Southeast which comprises the complex delta of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna river system. As the Bay of Bengal is one of the favorable areasfor the generation of tropical cyclones, almost the entire coastal belt is expose to thepotential danger of cyclones with associated storm surges.
