چکیده مقاله:
This article studies influences of strip and circular discontinuities on energy absorption behavior of circular composite tubes under lateral and axial loadings. Composite specimens were prepared in different characteristics anddifferent discontinuities were machined into the samples and they were compressed in quasi-static condition. Some holes with different diameters were machined into tube wall and some specimens were laterally compressed and the others were tested axially. In other specimens, longitudinal strip with different widths was machined and converted them to open-sections. Then, they laterally compressed. For each specimen, diagrams of lateral load, energy absorptionand absorbed energy/mass versus displacement were sketched. Experimental results indicate that there is an optimum diameter for circular discontinuity and a composite tube with optimum circular discontinuity absorbs higher energy/mass. Also, when number of created hole into a tube enhances, absorbed energy/mass ratio of the specimen increases. Furthermore, in open-section specimens, by increasing strip width, energy absorption increases.
