The Impact of Persian Lifestyle on Sustainable Mobility

Over the past decades public inclination towards sustainable transport has notably increased and many studies have struggled to find the main determinants which influence travel behaviors and their impacts on sustainable trip modes like walking, cycling or using public transport. Most of the researches identify the urban form and built environment as the chief factors of sustainable trip modes. However, there is less consideration about the impact of individuals lifestyle on trip behvior. This study investigates the relationship between lifestyle and walking trips in metropolitan of Shiraz. Lifestyle is defined as the main leisure activities patterns. To this end, a modal choice model for leisure trips is developed using data on personal lifestyle, collected via survey. Factor analysis is used to extract the main factors of lifestyle and then estimated using multiple regression between a set of variables. Considering the effects of individuals lifestyle on trip patterns reveals that subjective characteristics like lifestyle are important decisive factors of sustainable modal choices like walking ;specially in none-working trips. Take these findings into account may help planners to make changes in individuals trip behaviors through their lifestyle and activity patterns.
