Materials Selection for ESP Courses

One of the most important areas in English Language Teaching is English forSpecific Purposes (ESP). For a great deal of professions, tailor-made coursesand materials seem to be of vital importance in effective and task-basedlearning. As a result, ESP teachers play a different role from General Englishteachers. It usually involves needs analysis and syllabus design in addition tomaterials selection (Hutchinson and Waters, 1994). These tasks are allchallenging and can determine the success of ESP teaching/learning process.Effective course development practically leads to appropriate materialsselection. The current study discusses those aspects of ESP that need to beconsidered in selecting and preparing materials.
