The Relationship between Critical Thinking Skill and Argumentative Writing

Critical thinking as an important skill in language learning and teaching; has found its placein foreign language studies. Much research has been conducted to examine the effectivenessof critical thinking skill on different language skills. Writing as the most challenginglanguage skill for the learners, needs more attention. Among different types of writing,argumentative writing has shown to be highly related to critical thinking skills. The presentstudy aims at investigating the effectiveness of critical thinking skill on language learning aswell as its relationship with argumentative writing by reviewing related research articles. Thefindings revealed that critical thinking skill has positive effects on language skills.Furthermore, the difficulties in argumentative writing are mostly caused by the lack of criticalthinking skill in learners than lack of knowledge of the language.
