A Study on Reinforced Pavements Behaviour

Tests were carried out on pavements reinforced with geogrids to try to determine the effect of the reinforcing on the surface deformation of the pavements after they were subjected to repeated loading by a pneumatic tyre. Both single track tests and multiple track tests were carried out, and it was found that in both cases, the presence of the geogrid reduced the pavement deflection significantly. It was also found that by placing the geogrid at the centre of the base course of the pavement, the performance of the pavement was better than when it was placed at the bottom.
