The effect of climate change on milk yield and fat percent traits in Holstein herds of Khuzestan Province, Iran

In this study, data from meteorological stations and Holstein cattle herds in Khuzestan province of Iran during the years 1994 to 2011 were used. Diagrams of temperature and rainfall was plotted using the Excel software and coefficients of correlation and regression milk yield and fat percent with temperature and rainfall was calculated with SPSS software. During the years (1994 to 2011) temperature has increased slowly while the rainfall has reduced with a higher slope. With increase of temperature milk yield increased but the fat percent didn’t change. Correlation between the average of rainfall and milk yield and rainfall and fat percent was 0.213 and -0.046, respectively. Improved management of the effects of climate variation and suitable breeding strategy can significantly reduce the downsides of climate change impacts on animal productions.
