CO2 Reforming of Methane over Nickel Catalysts Supported on Nanocrystalline MgAl2O4 with High Surface Area

In this paper Dry reforming of methane (DRM) was carried out over MgAl2O4 supported Ni catalysts with various Ni loadings. MgAl2O4 spinel with high specific surface area, as nanocrystalline carrier for nickel catalysts, was synthesized by co-precipitation method with the addition of pluronic P123 triblock copolymer as surfactant. The prepared samples were characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption (BET), H2 chemisorption,Temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The obtained results showed that the catalyst support has a high specific surface area and a nanocrystalline structure. In addition, the specific surface area of calcined catalysts decreased with increasing Ni loading. The catalytic activity measurment results showed a high activity and stability of prepared catalysts during time on stream which could be attributable to high dispersion of reduced Ni species. In addition, the effect of feed ratio, Ni loading and GHSV on the catalytic performance of DRM over the catalysts were investigated.
