چکیده مقاله:
Sediment transport and erosion may be the most difficult problems in river and coastal engineering. Sediment may cause problems in river intake structures by closing the entrances, and by decreasing the navigation river depth and harbor area. Aggradation and degradation of the river channel affect navigation, flood conveyance and water withdrawal for irrigation, water supply and power plant cooling. Over the years, many different methods for sediment control have been developed. Many of the standard techniques are expensive. The other difficulty with these techniques is the lack of a good design basis, and prediction of their effectiveness and impacts on the channel’s flow and bed topography remains a challenge [7]. Due to lack of easy and common analytical tools, the design of the diversion structures must often be based on physical model studies. Many scientists developed equations experimentally to address sedimentation problems [6]. Discrepancies, conflicts, and the general unreliability of these solutions have been common. These models are typically enormous in scale. Unfortunately, the cost of building, operating, and housing of these models is exorbitant, and the time required to obtain results can take many years. With the rapidly changing advances in computational modeling for solving the governing equations of fluid flow, engineers now face the decision of which methods to use in evaluating projects. This paper gives applications of the computer package, ANSYS, to simulate the complex flow field at channel intake with and without submerged vanes effects to predict the flow field near the intake entrance and around submerged vanes. So, various submerged vane array patterns can be easily studied to be used in sedimentation control
