Evaluation of Semnan province wheat seed production fields health status against seed-borne pathogen T. laevis

Wheat is one of the most important and substantial product of the country. Seedborne diseases areamong factors that effect health status of seed production fields and can cause reduction of seedproduction. Contaminated soil is the other source of infection. To evaluate health status of seedproduction fields, ٩١ seed samples from certified category of Pishtaz, Alvand and Kavir fromGarmsar, Byarjomand, Shahrod and Semnan cities of Semnan province were collected and basedon ISTA rules, washing test by weighing ١٠٠ gram seed, adding water. Stirring and centrifugation,observation and counting of spores under light microscope carried out. Result indicated generalcontamination of all seed production fields as same as results obtained for years ١٣٨٨ and ١٣٨٩.Ranges of contamination differ greatly from ٠.٠٨ up to١٢ and ٠.٨ up to١٤.٣٢ with averagecontamination level of ٢.٣ and ٤.٣ no. of spores/ seed for Pishtaz and Alvand varieties respectively.But as documented at least ٥٠ and ١٠٠ spores/ seed is needed for infection induction in susceptiblevarieties with and without seed treatment, can say that seed production fields are healthy butselection of healthy fields, seed treatment with suitable seed treatment poisons and instrument andetc is must.
