چکیده مقاله:

The purpose of this study which has been prepared as a library research is to investigate the significance of music in learning and teaching English as a foreign language. Over a broad range of years, researchers have attempted to define the music-language connection, with results that agree on various levels, and show a high degree of thematic cohesion. Music has been proven to lower anxiety, contribute to enjoyment, cause linguistic awareness and stimulate the memory response. Besides, it helps in most areas of language learning, effecting vocabulary learning, proper accent, and grammar, as well as encouraging cultural fluency. Music enhances a learning environment due to its affective power; for which the theoretical support has also been given throughout this article. It is an encoding of cultural values and ideology which need to be viewed critically if it is to going to be used in teaching language. Having psychological and physiological effects, music creates a motivational, interesting and relaxing learning atmosphere. Moreover, music bridges the gap between teachers and students. The supportive interaction between music and Language has various useful effects that imply more place for music in the curriculums of teaching English language in the Universities of Iran.
