چکیده مقاله:

In the present investigation, the effect of different weldingpaths, which are designed based on the constructal theory andnamed constructal welding paths , on entropy generationduring arc welding of thin aluminum plates has been studied.Constructal theory is used as a means to construct new weldingpaths with less entropy generation which will result in lessresidual stresses in weldments. The present numericalmodelling is validated with temperature distribution results ofplanned experimental welding of aluminum 1100 plates. Thewelding velocity is adjusted such that the amount of heat inputis equal in all different welding models in present study. Usingthe temperature distributions, heat fluxes and temperaturebased thermal characteristics of the weldments, the generatedentropy of two constructal welding paths, with differentwelding sequences, are compared with the simple straightwelding path. The experimental results have a good agreementwith the numerical temperature distribution at various sectionsin all models. Finally, the results revealed that the constructalwelding paths will decrease the amount of entropy generationin welding. Moreover, the obtained temperature distributionsprove that the proposed welding paths could be used as amethod to reduce the residual stresses in welding along withthe former methods of pre-heating and welding sequences.
