چکیده مقاله:

Turning ethanol into advanced biofuel intermediates has long been hampered by the thermodynamic and kinetic costs of high-temperature catalysis poor selectivity, irreversible catalyst burnout, and an stubborn reliance on fossil-derived process energy. This paper lays out the conceptual framework for GlaS-A-Fuels: a self-powered, glass-based photonic reactor platform that brings together atomically dispersed metal catalysts, precision-engineered photonic glass structures, embedded thin-film photovoltaics, and an AI optimization layer - not as separate modules bolted together, but as a single, coherent material-process system. The photonic glass body does triple duty here: it serves as a structural vessel, a solar concentration medium through luminescent solar concentrator functionality, and a plasmonic near-field scaffold that channels photon energy directly to catalytically active single-atom sites embedded in mesoporous glass supports. These single-atom catalysts whose electronic structure and coordination geometry can be fine-tuned through support chemistry ― enable selective C-H bond activation and product-specific ethanol conversion under near-ambient conditions, a fundamental departure from the statistical reactivity of conventional metal nanoparticle catalysts. An embedded photovoltaic layer harvests the remaining solar spectrum and powers the reactor's sensor network and edge-computing hardware, supporting genuine operational energy autonomy. An AI-driven optimization layer built on surrogate kinetic models, model predictive control, and a digital twin framework handles real-time process adaptation and long-term catalytic health management. This paper works through the theoretical foundations, architectural design principles, photon-to-product mechanistic pathways, AI integration logic, and sustainability profile of the GlaS-A-Fuels concept. It also confronts, without evasion, the fabrication, stability, and modeling challenges that any experimental realization would have to overcome. No experimental data are reported; all performance claims are grounded in theoretically defensible bounds drawn from published literature.
