Al-Powered Chatbots in Education: A Systematic Review of Applications, Benefits, and Challenges

This study provides a systematic review of AI-powered chatbots in educational contexts, focusing on their applications, benefits, and challenges. Drawing on recent peer-reviewed literature, the research synthesizes evidence on how chatbots have been utilized to support personalized learning, enhance student engagement, and assist in administrative tasks. The analysis identifies recurring themes, including adaptive learning support, real-time feedback, and improved accessibility, while also highlighting limitations such as technological constraints, ethical concerns regarding data privacy, and potential biases. Despite the reported advantages, the review reveals gaps in the literature, particularly regarding long-term educational impacts, socio-cultural factors, and integration with other AI-based educational technologies. The study concludes that AI chatbots offer promising avenues to enrich learning experiences and institutional efficiency; however, their effective and ethical deployment requires careful design, context-sensitive implementation, and further research to address the identified gaps and ensure inclusive and responsible educational practices.
