چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Zinc phosphide is a highly toxic rodenticide commonly used in India, especially in rural agricultural regions. Upon ingestion, it releases phosphine gas, which is associated with multi-organ dysfunction and high mortality. Prompt recognition and aggressive supportive management are critical for survival.Case Presentation: A ۵۰-year-old male presented to the emergency department following deliberate oral ingestion of approximately ۱۴ g of commercially available rodenticide containing ۲۰% zinc phosphide at Patan, Gujarat. On arrival, the patient was conscious, oriented, and hemodynamically stable. Initial physical examination and vital signs were within normal limits. Immediate gastric lavage was performed, and the patient was managed with intravenous fluids, proton pump inhibitors, antiemetics, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate, and vitamin K. He remained clinically stable. He was discharged without complications on the third day of hospitalization. Conclusion: Early recognition and intensive supportive care can lead to favorable outcomes in zinc phosphide poisoning, even in potentially lethal ingestions. This case highlights the importance of timely intervention and the role of ICU monitoring in preventing systemic toxicity.
