Exploring EFL Students' Lived Experiences of Using AI-Powered Chat-bots in Academic Writing: Impact on Fluency and Accuracy from Learners' Perspectives

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly influenced language education, particularly in the area of academic writing. AI‑powered chatbots have emerged as innovative tools that assist learners in generating ideas, revising texts, and improving linguistic accuracy. This study explores the lived experiences of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners who utilize AI‑powered chatbots in academic writing tasks and investigates how these tools influence writing fluency and accuracy from learners’ perspectives. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research examines learners’ perceptions of AI‑assisted writing practices in higher education contexts. The findings reveal that AI chatbots contribute positively to idea generation, language accuracy, and writing confidence while also presenting challenges related to overreliance and critical evaluation of AI‑generated suggestions. The study highlights the potential of AI tools to support language learning while emphasizing the importance of pedagogical guidance and responsible use.
