چکیده مقاله:

Parallel to daily growth of population and urbanization, traffic issues and their negative side effects have become big concerns in both developed and developing societies over the past decades. Since supply-oriented policies have not been successful in coping with such problems, transport demand management has drawn the attention of decision makers over the recent years. This study aims to present an insight into Transport Demand Management (TDM) and provide a snapshot on successfully-implemented TDM measures in different parts of the world. The probable impacts of transport demand reduction is investigated using a conceptual demand-supply model. The economic aspects of TDM, as well as the success factors of TDM measures are also discussed in this paper. This study could be beneficial for developing countries (like Iran) which are on the path of solving their urban transport issues
