چکیده مقاله:

The rapid expansion of social media has fundamentally transformed the production, distribution, interpretation, and consumption of journalistic information. Unlike traditional journalism, social media journalism operates within an interactive and networked communication environment in which professional journalists, news organizations, audiences, influencers, and ordinary users participate simultaneously in the circulation of information. This transformation has created new opportunities for cultural representation, public participation, social interaction, and access to diverse perspectives, while also generating significant challenges related to misinformation, polarization, selective exposure, algorithmic personalization, and declining trust in media institutions. This review examines the influence of social media journalism on cultural values and social attitudes by integrating insights from journalism studies, communication theory, sociology, cultural studies, and digital media research. Particular attention is given to journalistic framing, audience participation, algorithmic gatekeeping, social endorsement, misinformation, cultural representation, and political and affective polarization. The findings indicate that social media journalism does not produce uniform effects; rather, its influence depends on interactions among journalistic practices, platform algorithms, audience characteristics, social networks, cultural identities, and institutional contexts. Social media journalism can contribute to cultural dialogue, civic participation, and greater visibility of marginalized communities when supported by professional standards and media literacy. However, engagement-driven algorithms, misinformation, selective exposure, and emotionally charged content can also reinforce existing beliefs and intensify social divisions. The study concludes that the social influence of digital journalism should be understood as a multidimensional socio-technical process rather than as a simple media-effects relationship.
