چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Composition and its instruction in visual arts, especially in the field of painting, are among the most fundamental educational and practical topics in this domain, to the extent that creating an image without understanding its concepts and execution principles is impossible. Therefore, the aim of this research is to formulate the main concepts and their practical methods through a content analysis of credible sources to address the existing gap in painting education. Accordingly, the main research question is: “What components and practical principles do the common compositional foundations in existing educational texts include?”Research Method: This research is fundamental in purpose, descriptive in its method (content analysis), and qualitative in its data analysis, with data collected through library research. In the three-stage categorization analysis, among the more than ۶۵ identified sources, after removing duplicates and based on credibility and comprehensiveness, ۳۴ sources were selected, and recurring open codes in at least ۵ sources served as the basis for extracting the main categories.Findings: Previous sources, which seemed largely lacking in unified and complete execution methods, identified ۶۱ practical composition codes in this study, organized into six main categories (proportion, value structure, figure-ground abstraction, cohesion, extension, and types of compositional structure), providing a comprehensive and hierarchical framework with executable details for teaching painting. Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, composition training can be structured into objective stages. This framework provides the basis for designing an “independent course unit” in painting and moving away from trial-and-error teaching.
