چکیده مقاله:

Pain following endodontic treatment is one of the common problems in endodontic care and is influenced by factors such as the condition of the pulp and periapical tissues, inflammation or infection, the complexity of the root canal system, the treatment procedure, and individual patient characteristics. Even when transient, this pain can negatively affect patient comfort, quality of life, satisfaction, and treatment experience. The present study aimed to review novel methods for pain control following endodontic treatment and the factors affecting their effectiveness. This study was a review with a descriptive-analytical approach, and the required information was examined using a documentary method and a review of relevant sources. The findings indicated that pain following endodontic treatment is a multifactorial phenomenon, with the inflammatory response of periapical tissues interacting with mechanical, chemical, and microbial factors playing an important role in its development. Pharmacological methods remain among the most important approaches to pain control; however, limitations associated with patients’ conditions and the possibility of adverse effects highlight the need for complementary approaches. Non-pharmacological methods, physical and supportive interventions, and attention to psychological factors may also contribute to pain management. Furthermore, novel technologies in root canal preparation and cleaning, laser-based methods, physical and non-invasive interventions, and digital tools offer potential for pain prevention and control. Overall, effective pain control requires a comprehensive, preventive, and patient-centered approach, and the selection of an appropriate method should consider the patient’s clinical condition and individual characteristics.
