<span lang="EN">A half-century of the Journal of Endodontics — Part ۱: a historical review and bibliometric analysis of research output and citation patterns

Objective: This study aimed to present a bibliometric analysis of the Journal of Endodontics (JOE)’s publication output and citation patterns over five decades.Methods: Scientific articles published in the JOE between ۱۹۷۵ and ۲۰۲۴ were retrieved from Elsevier’s Scopus database. Bibliometric indicators including publication volume, citation counts, the h-index, the g-index, author productivity, and geographic distribution were analyzed. Data were cleaned and standardized to ensure accuracy, and descriptive statistics were used to identify key trends.Results: JOE has demonstrated consistent growth in research output, publishing a total of ۸,۷۵۳ articles, with an average of ۱۶۹.۲۲ articles per year. The cumulative citation count was ۳۹۰,۲۶۵. Citation-based metrics showed a strong scholarly impact (h-index = ۲۰۴; g-index = ۲۹۳). The i۱۰-index was ۶,۹۲۷, indicating that ۶,۹۲۷ articles had received at least ۱۰ citations. Among the most highly cited research areas were root canal disinfection, regenerative endodontics, and biomaterials. Geographically, the United States accounted for the highest number of publications, followed by Brazil and China. Mahmoud Torabinejad was the most cited author, followed by Jose Siqueira Jr. and David Pashley. In terms of productivity, Siqueira Jr. ranked first with ۱۶۲ articles, followed by Torabinejad (۱۱۵) and Pashley (۱۰۷).Conclusions: Over its ۵۰-year history, JOE has consistently published peer-reviewed papers across a broad range of topics in endodontics. This bibliometric evaluation offers a historical and quantitative overview of the journal’s publication and citation trends.
