چکیده مقاله:
Dry and wet spells are common extreme weather events that have significant global impacts on ecosystems, water resources, and agriculture. This study examines the frequency and trend of maximum consecutive dry and wet spells in Northwestern Nigeria using long-term daily rainfall data from ۱۹۸۰ to ۲۰۲۱. The temporal trend of dry and wet spells was analysed using the Mann-Kendall test, and Pearson’s correlation was utilised to examine relationships. Both dry and wet spells showed positive and negative trends. The analysis reveals significant trends in dry and wet spell patterns, indicating increasing dryness in some areas and heightened wetness, particularly in Kano, Sokoto, and Kebbi. The Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) and dry spells are strongly correlated with P values of (۰.۰۱ and ۰.۰۰) in Sokoto and Kebbi state. The findings of this study can inform decision-making for water resource planning, agriculture, and disaster risk management in mitigating drought and flood disaster.
