چکیده مقاله:
This article presents a comparative study of two prominent visual traditions in Asia: Iranian miniature painting and traditional Korean painting. The study focuses on symbolism, visual structure, and compositional principles in order to examine the cultural, social, and philosophical functions of these artistic practices, as well as their similarities and differences within their respective historical contexts.Iranian miniature painting has developed with a strong emphasis on mythological narratives, epic literature, symbolic imagery, and the intricate relationship between humans, nature, and spiritual belief systems. These visual elements are deeply rooted in Persian literary and philosophical traditions, reflecting a complex interplay of cultural, ethical, and aesthetic values. In contrast, traditional Korean painting, particularly in the context of Minhwa, depicts everyday life, nature, moral concepts, and religious and folk beliefs, fostering a more immediate and relatable connection with its social environment and collective consciousness. This research adopts a comparative and analytical approach, examining visual motifs, symbolic elements, and compositional structures in selected examples from both traditions. The analysis suggests that, despite historical, regional, and social differences, certain visual symbols and artistic features are shared between Iranian and Korean painting traditions; however, these elements acquire distinct meanings and functions within their specific cultural frameworks.Overall, this study highlights the role of visual art as a cultural bridge between societies, offering insights into how belief systems, social values, and historical conditions shape visual language in East and West Asia. The findings underscore the importance of symbolism, composition, and cultural context in both the creation and interpretation of visual traditions.
