Evaluating the river-based tourism potential of the Qezel Ozan river in the Tarom and Qazvin counties, Iran

The Qezel Ozan River and its surrounding areas, in terms of natural, biological, ecological, and social characteristics, have great potential to attract tourists and serve as a promising site for river tourism. This study aims to evaluate the river tourism potential of Qezel Ozan in the Tarom region. In this study, was assessed using a range of environmental parameters, including accessibility, geology, land use, services, slope, flow velocity, water turbidity, and river width. Results of the river tourism suitability zoning show that the initial reaches of the river near Gilvan offer the best conditions for attracting tourists and can be considered a river tourism site. The area surrounding this river due to its natural environmental characteristics, presents an appropriate setting for nature-based tourism, particularly for geotourists. Therefore, in light of the current findings, improving weaker indicators within the study area, alongside further strengthening the critical factors of accessibility and services, could significantly enhance the potential for river-based tourism development in the region.
