چکیده مقاله:
objectives: Given the critical role of nurses in providing care to patients in life-threatening conditions in intensive care units (ICUs), investigating the causes of job burnout is of great importance. The present study aimed to determine the level and dimensions of job burnout among nurses working in the intensive care units of hospitals in Baghdad.Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in ۲۰۲۵ using convenience sampling. A total of ۲۶۵ nurses employed in the ICUs, Coronary Care Units (CCUs), and dialysis wards of hospitals in Baghdad participated. Data were collected using a demographic information form and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Descriptive and inferential statistical tests were applied, including frequency, mean and standard deviation, independent t-test, Spearman and Pearson correlations, and hierarchical multiple regression. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version ۲۶ (p-value< ۰.۰۵).Results: The level of job burnout among ICU nurses in Baghdad was moderate (Mean ± SD: ۷۰.۹۹ ± ۲۲.۶۴). Among the dimensions of burnout, emotional exhaustion had the highest score (Mean ± SD: ۳۵.۳۳ ± ۱۱.۶۲). Moreover, age (B = -۰.۱۴۸, P = ۰.۰۰۰۱) and employment in the private sector (B = -۰.۷۹۸, P = ۰.۰۰۰۱) had a significant and negative effect on job burnout, while working in the dialysis unit (B = ۰.۲۶۶, P = ۰.۰۰۰۱) showed a significant and positive effect (P < ۰.۰۵).Conclusions: There was a moderate level of job burnout among nurses working in the intensive care units of hospitals in Baghdad, with emotional exhaustion being the most prominent dimension. These results highlight the need for the development and continuation of programs aimed at reducing emotional exhaustion and enhancing the physical and psychological well-being of ICU nurses.
