Analyzing the Paradox of "Professional Expertise - Financial Inefficiency": A Mixed-Methods Meta-Analysis among Specialist Physicians in Shiraz with a Focus on Cognitive Biases

This study investigates the persistent paradox where high academic and professional expertise among specialist physicians does not necessarily translate into financial efficiency. Through a mixed-methods meta-analysis, we synthesized data from recent literature (۲۰۲۰- ۲۰۲۵) and focused on the prevalence of cognitive biases among specialist physicians in Shiraz, Iran. Our findings indicate a significant prevalence of overconfidence, loss aversion, and anchoring biases, which negatively correlate with financial literacy and decision-making efficiency. The meta-analysis of seven key studies revealed a pooled effect size of ۰.۳۹, suggesting a moderate to strong impact of cognitive biases on financial mismanagement. The study concludes that specialized medical training often lacks essential financial education, leaving high-income professionals vulnerable to systematic psychological traps in wealth management.
