Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic of the macrolide group and is active against mycoplasmas, Gram-positive bacteria, and certain Gram-negative bacteria. This antibiotic is used in poultry flocks (broilers and pullets) as well as in turkeys for the treatment and prevention of respiratory infections associated with Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) when the disease is diagnosed at the flock level. This study was conducted to compare the clinical efficacy of two commercial oral solutions of Tilmicosin ۲۵% on broiler performance in flock. At a broiler farm in Qazvin Province of Iran, two houses—each with a capacity of approximately ۱۰,۰۰۰ birds—were selected; ۸,۷۰۰ birds were placed in the first house and ۹,۳۰۰ in the second. Management and nutritional conditions, as well as all health and vaccination protocols, were identical in both houses. The chicks in the first house received the oral antibiotic solution Tilmovet (Huvepharma, Bulgaria), at a dosage of ۶۰ ml per ۲۰۰ liters of drinking water, for three days at ۳–۵ days of age and then for two days at ۲۷–۲۸ days of age. Chicks in the second house also received the oral antibiotic solution Pulmotil (Elanco, Switzerland), at a dosage of ۶۰ ml per ۲۰۰ liters of drinking water for three days at ۳–۵ days of age and then for two days at ۲۷–۲۸ days of age. Upon the arrival of day-old chicks at each house and subsequently at weekly intervals until the end of the rearing period, blood samples were collected from ۱۰ chicks per house, and all resulting serum samples were tested for MG using the RSA test. One percent of the chicks in each house were individually weighed on a weekly basis up to the end of the seventh week. Feed intake and the feed conversion ratio were calculated weekly for both houses. The incidence rates of various diseases and complications, as well as the resulting mortality, were recorded for both poultry houses. A number of Escherichia coli isolates, recovered from routine daily mortalities at ۲۵ days of age, were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The results regarding each of the aforementioned parameters were compared and analyzed between the two houses using appropriate statistical methods. The flock under study exhibited no significant issues during the rearing period. At the end of the rearing period, the mortality rate in house ۱ (۱۰.۷%) differed only slightly from that in house ۲ (۱۰.۹%). Mortality during the first week was primarily attributed to culls. Subsequent losses were mainly due to sudden death syndrome, culling, and sporadic cases of colibacillosis. The average weights of the chicks from both houses at various ages were compared using the Independent-Samples T-Test, and no statistically significant difference was observed. There was no significant difference in the feed conversion ratio between the two houses at the end of the trial. Serum samples collected from chicks on day one tested positive for MG via the RSA test in two instances in the first house and one instance in the second house; however, all other samples from day one and all subsequent serum samples collected throughout the rearing period tested negative for MG. Several E. coli isolates recovered from routine daily mortalities at ۲۵ days of age demonstrated complete susceptibility to florfenicol, enrofloxacin, linco-spectin, and fosbac. Based on the farm trial results, there appears to be no significant difference in performance between the two antibiotic oral solution of Tilmovet (Huvepharma, Bulgaria) and Pulmotil (Elanco, Switzerland); therefore, both antibiotics are suitable for use in poultry farms
