چکیده مقاله:
Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition, immune protection, and emotional bonding for infants. Abrupt cessation can lead to stress, feeding difficulties, and emotional challenges. Therefore, weaning should be gradual, individualized, and developmentally appropriate, ensuring a smooth transition for both the child and the mother. Practical strategies for safe weaning include: ۱. Gradual replacement: Begin by substituting one breastfeeding session with solid foods or an appropriate milk alternative, such as expressed breast milk or formula. Increase the replacement gradually over several weeks. ۲. Maintain routine and consistency: Keep feeding schedules consistent to provide a sense of security and predictability for the child. Avoid sudden changes in timing or routine. ۳. Emotional substitutes: Offer comfort through non-feeding interactions such as hugging, playing, or storytelling to meet the child's emotional needs. ۴. Gradual reduction of night feeds: Slowly reduce nighttime breastfeeding and provide soothing alternatives to help the child adjust without distress. ۵. Parental guidance: Educate parents about normal resistance and crying during weaning. Teach practical methods to comfort and support the child without breastfeeding. ۶. Monitor growth and nutrition: Regularly track the child's weight and growth to ensure nutritional needs are met with complementary foods. Gradual weaning promotes child autonomy while maintaining emotional security. It also reduces maternal stress and supports continued bonding. Pediatric specialists play a key role by offering evidence-based guidance, emotional support, and follow-up, ensuring that both nutritional and psychosocial needs are addressed. In conclusion, safe and effective weaning is a structured, child-centered, and evidence- based process. By implementing gradual replacement, maintaining consistent routines, providing emotional substitutes, and monitoring growth, specialists can facilitate a smooth transition from breastfeeding while preserving the mother-child bond. These strategies support healthy development, positive emotional adjustment, and long-term well-being for both the child and the family.
