چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: The end-tidal CO۲ pressure (PetCO۲) monitoring which is a non-invasive method than PVCO۲ (venous pressure of carbon dioxide), could determinate a graph depicting the carbon dioxide concentration in blood. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between PetCO۲-PVCO۲ in ventilated children. Methods: All children intubated in the PICU of Children hospital Tabriz, Iran from ۲۰۱۹ to ۲۰۲۰ using the census method were assessed in terms of initial diagnosis, age, sex, PetCO۲, and PVCO۲ during a prospective cross-sectional study. Associations between variables were calculated for total patients and patients in the subgroups. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the quantitative analysis of data and the Pearson correlation coefficient and Linear Regression Test were used for the evaluation of the relationship between variables and for assessing the predictive values of PVCO۲ using SPSS.۲۶. A P value ۰.۰۵ was considered statistically significant. Results: Out of ۶۱ samples, ۴۲ (۶۸.۹%) patients were males with a median age of ۴۸ months. The mean of PetCO۲ and PvCO۲ were ۲۰.۳ _x۰۰۰۰_B۱ ۸.۵ and ۴۳ _x۰۰۰۰_B۱ ۱۲.۳ mm Hg, respectively. The correlation of PetCO۲-PVCO۲ was significant in total patients (P value = ۰.۰۰۳, r = ۰.۳۷۹) and group ۱ (P value = ۰.۰۰۹, r = ۰.۳۷۴). Furthermore, the results presented the predictive values of PVCO۲ for PetCO۲ while for one unit increase in the PVCO۲ variable, PetCO۲ could increase ۰.۳۷۲ units (P value = ۰.۰۰۵, Slope b = ۰.۲۴, Beta coefficient = ۰.۳۷۲). Conclusion: In most intubated children, PetCO۲ may estimate the ventilation and change concentrations of CO۲. It is necessary that the sample size of future studies will become large due to the weak correlation.
