Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis for Sustainability Assessment

Sustainability and performance assessment are significant aspects for policy makers in order to make a sustainable decision. A sustainability framework usually addresses economic, social and environmental impacts. In many real applications, imprecise data are also present. Therefore, the current study proposes a novel approach based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) to evaluate the sustainability performance in the presence of imprecise measures. To illustrate, the performance of systems with fuzzy data from each perspective, economic, social and environmental, is evaluated while undesirable outputs are present. Then, the overall sustainability performance is estimated using a fuzzy composite indicators (CIs) aggregate approach based on DEA. An example is used to illustrate and clarify the proposed approach.
