In recent years, self-cleaning coatings have attracted significant attention due to their extensive applications in textile industries, construction materials, biomedical devices, and smart surfaces. These coatings possess the ability to reduce surface contamination and maintenance costs by preventing the accumulation of pollutants and facilitating the removal of dirt particles through water droplets. In the present study, a self-cleaning nanocomposite coating based on polyaniline/chitosan was successfully synthesized via the in situ polymerization method. Chitosan was employed as a biodegradable polymeric matrix, while polyaniline was utilized as a conductive polymer to enhance the surface properties of the coating. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to investigate its chemical structure and surface morphology. Furthermore, the hydrophobic behavior of the coating was evaluated through water contact angle measurements. The obtained results confirmed the successful formation of the polyaniline/chitosan nanocomposite and demonstrated that the incorporation of polyaniline increased surface roughness and improved the self-cleaning performance of the coating. In addition, the prepared coating exhibited favorable stability and reduced adhesion contamination on the surface. The findings of this research suggest that the synthesized nanocomposite can be considered a promising candidate for advanced smart and self-cleaning coating applications.
