چکیده مقاله:

Electrochromic windows, as a new generation of smart windows, offer the capability to adjust light and heat transmission by applying an electrical voltage. This technology holds significant potential for enhancing energy efficiency in buildings, improving user comfort, and reducing environmental impact. This review article aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the latest advancements in the field of electrochromic windows, delving into their materials, working mechanisms, structures, fabrication methods, diverse applications, and current challenges. Initially, the fundamental principles of electrochromism and the various chemical and physical mechanisms involved in voltage-induced reversible color change are explained. Subsequently, a comprehensive classification of key materials, including active electrochromic materials (metal oxides and conducting polymers), electrolytes, and transparent conductive layers, is presented, and their characteristics are compared. The discussion then extends to common structures and novel fabrication and deposition methods for these windows, covering physical and chemical techniques as well as printing-based approaches. The widespread applications of electrochromic windows in the building industry (windows, facades) and transportation (automobiles, trains, aircraft), along with other innovative uses such as smart mirrors, are examined. Finally, the major challenges facing this technology, including cost, long-term stability, response speed, and mass production limitations, are identified. Future research and development trends, such as the utilization of nanomaterials, cost-effective fabrication methods, and integration with smart systems, are discussed. This review offers a clear vision of the future of electrochromic windows as a key component in sustainable and intelligent architecture.
