چکیده مقاله:
Accurate prediction of mixed-mode brittle fracture remains a fundamental challenge in computational mechanics due to the mathematical complexities associated with spatial discontinuities. This study investigates the static mixed-mode fracture behavior of the Diagonally Loaded Square Plate (DLSP) specimen using the Modified Bond-Based Peridynamics (MBB-PD) theory. The DLSP specimen, made of the brittle polymer Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), is simulated to evaluate its load-bearing capacity and crack propagation characteristics. The MBB-PD method is specifically employed to overcome the fixed Poisson's ratio restriction inherent in classical bond-based peridynamics, allowing for an accurate physical representation of the PMMA material properties. The numerical model autonomously captures the non-coplanar crack propagation paths, localized damage contours, and continuous displacement fields across a comprehensive range of mode mixities, transitioning from pure Mode I to pure Mode II. The numerical results are rigorously validated against existing experimental benchmark data. The comparison demonstrates that the MBB-PD framework provides highly accurate predictions of the critical peak fracture loads and successfully replicates the complex geometrical features of the crack trajectories. In conclusion, the MBB-PD approach is proven to be a robust and highly reliable computational tool for static fracture analysis, eliminating the need for supplementary crack growth criteria or spatial re-meshing.
