The heat transfer of saturated steam to subcooled water spray produced by a hollow cone pressure-swirl nozzle was examined by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in which a two-dimensional (۲D) axisymmetric swirl calculation was performed to simulate the hydraulic characteristics and the temperature profile of the water spray in the sheet region. The CFD simulations were validated by the Takahashi’s experimental results obtained in the studies under the same operational conditions. The numerical simulations revealed that condensation did not noticeably affect the spray cone angle and the interfacial area density. In the simulation, the interfacial area density of liquid sheet was introduced to evaluate the area of the vapor-liquid interface. The numerical simulations indicated ۵ percent mean deviation with experimental results. The velocity variation and temperature distribution are reported as contour for all computational domain and documented for axial axis. This solver setting can be applied to get more validated results for various operational and boundary conditions.
