چکیده مقاله:

The catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into methanol has emerged as a strategically significant pathway for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously enabling sustainable fuel and chemical production, thereby aligning with global carbon-neutrality objectives. In this study, we report the systematic synthesis and characterization of copper-based nanocatalysts engineered specifically for high-pressure CO۲-to-methanol conversion. The catalysts were prepared via controlled chemical routes designed to tune metal dispersion, surface area, and metal-support interactions, yielding nanostructures with enhanced active site accessibility and improved thermal stability under industrially relevant conditions. Comprehensive physicochemical analyses—including XRD, TEM, BET, H۲-TPR, and XPS were performed to correlate structural features with catalytic behavior. High-pressure catalytic testing demonstrated that the tailored Cu-based nanocatalysts exhibited superior CO۲ conversion rates and markedly higher methanol selectivity compared with conventional Cu/ZnO/Al۲O۳ formulations, particularly at elevated pressures where surface hydrogenation pathways are favored. The improved catalytic performance is attributed to synergistic effects between copper nanoparticles and the engineered support matrix, which collectively enhance charge transfer, stabilize Cu+/Cu° active species, and promote efficient activation of CO۲ and H۲ molecules. Kinetic analyses further confirmed that the optimized nanocatalysts reduce activation barriers associated with CO۲ hydrogenation, thereby increasing turnover frequency and overall reaction efficiency. Additionally, long-term stability tests revealed excellent resistance to sintering and deactivation, underscoring their suitability for continuous high-pressure operation. Taken together, the results highlight that rational design of copper-based nanostructured catalysts offers a promising route toward efficient, scalable, and environmentally sustainable methanol synthesis from carbon dioxide. The insights gained from this work provide valuable guidance for future catalyst development targeting carbon capture and utilization technologies.
