The integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems into vehicles represents a transformative approach to sustainable transportation, addressing both the growing demand for energy efficiency and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the role of photovoltaic systems in the automotive industry, examining current technologies, applications, challenges, and future prospects. The research explores various integration methods including vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV), solar-assisted electric vehicles, and PV-based charging infrastructure. Key findings indicate that modern PV modules can generate sufficient energy to significantly extend electric vehicle range, with demonstration projects showing annual energy yields equivalent to ۷,۱۰۰ km of driving distance. The paper also analyzes technical challenges including curved surface integration, maximum power point tracking under dynamic conditions, and energy management strategies. Furthermore, regulatory frameworks and off-cycle CO۲ credit opportunities are discussed. The review concludes that despite existing challenges, photovoltaic systems will play an increasingly vital role in the automotive industry's transition toward sustainable mobility.
