چکیده مقاله:
This study examines the depiction of religion in Eugène Flandin’s nineteenth-century French travelogue Voyage en Perse which serves as the research corpus. The book, issued by Gide et J. Baudry between ۱۸۴۳ and ۱۸۵۴, is available for public consultation via a range of digital libraries and archives. Since the analysis is based on the Persian translation of Noorsadeqi (۱۹۷۷), it focuses on the concepts conveyed in each passage rather than on the original vocabulary or lexical choices. Using content analysis, this study examines the entire book and presents forty-one passages containing religious terms and expressions employed by Flandin to describe religious practices and beliefs in nineteenth-century Iran. The analysis followed an inductive approach, with categories emerging from the data and organized into four thematic groups: religion as belief, religion as superstition, religion as identity, and religion as culture. In addition, the study highlights a few Persian terms appearing in their original forms, accompanied by their French contexts and English translations, thereby illustrating the linguistic and cultural transfer embedded in this travel account.
