چکیده مقاله:

Translation in the news genre is an inherently ideological act, especially when it occurs across politically and culturally disparate contexts. This paper investigates how Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) serves as an effective framework for examining the translation of political news between English and Persian. Drawing on foundational CDA models (van Dijk's socio-cognitive approach and Fairclough's dialectical-relational approach) and key empirical studies on Iranian media, the analysis demonstrates that translation is never a neutral process. Instead, it is a site of ideological manipulation where translators and media institutions strategically employ strategies such as lexical manipulation, addition, omission, and polarization to align source texts with the socio-political demands of the target audience. The paper reviews the connection between CDA and translation studies, analyzes empirical findings from the Iranian context, discusses power dynamics and ideological manipulation, and proposes a synthesized analytical framework. The findings advance our theoretical understanding of how language, ideology, and power intersect in cross-cultural news production and offer a robust model for future research in translation studies, journalism, and political discourse.
