Acute Effects of Resistance, Stretching, and Proprioceptive Exercises on Knee Joint Position Sense Accuracy in Trained Men

This study aimed to compare the acute effects of resistance, stretching, and proprioceptive exercise on knee joint position sense in trained men. Ten recreationally active men participated in a quasi-experimental crossover design. Each participant completed three exercise protocols, including resistance training, static stretching, and proprioceptive training, with a control condition. Knee proprioception was assessed by measuring absolute angular reconstruction error at a target angle of ۶۰ degrees before and ۵, ۱۰, and ۱۵ minutes after each intervention. Resistance exercise consisted of squats at ۸۵% of one-repetition maximum, stretching involved static stretching of the quadriceps and hamstrings, and proprioceptive exercise was performed using balance tasks on a BOSU ball. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance. The results showed no significant acute effect of resistance, stretching, or proprioceptive exercise on knee joint proprioception across the post-intervention time points. Although small numerical changes were observed in the mean reconstruction error, none of the differences reached statistical significance. These findings suggest that a single session of the tested exercise protocols does not meaningfully alter knee joint position sense in trained men within the first ۱۵ minutes after exercise. However, the small sample size and low statistical power should be considered when interpreting the results. Further studies with larger samples and more sensitive proprioceptive assessment methods are needed to clarify the short-term neuromuscular responses to different exercise modalities
