Despite its renewable energy potential, a large proportion of the population lacks reliable access to electricity. Renewable energy technology is among the most significant and promising solutions for addressing the world's rising energy demands. Yemen mostly relies on the burning of fossil fuels to provide power. The long-term use of these resources is associated with numerous challenges because of their unsustainability, vulnerability to environmental and climate change impacts, and high cost. This review article focuses mainly on the application of five renewable energy resources, namely solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower, in Yemen as some of the most significant alternatives for resolving power-related issues. To satisfy the rising demand for energy in the country, this study also examines the various aspects and challenges associated with these resources. The study compiles and analyzes available data and clarifies the obstacles and challenges Yemen faces in implementing renewable energy investment initiatives. In light of these challenges, as well as Yemen's political and economic issues, we suggest that the most appropriate solution is to utilize renewable energy resources in Yemen.
