Optimization of the Production Procedure of Potassium Superoxide-Based Air Revitalization Tablets: Characterization and Antibacterial Properties

This study examined how physicochemical parameters and environmental conditions affect the performance of potassium superoxide tablets for air revitalization, utilizing the Taguchi statistical method. The optimal physical parameters for tablet manufacturing were identified as a particle size of ۳۰۰ μm, a pressure of ۶ bar, and a pressing time of ۳ seconds. The innovative tablet formulation included ۵wt% of Al۲O۳, Cu۲(OH)۳Cl, and SiO۲. The best operating conditions for the modified tablets were ۲۰ °C and ۷۰% relative humidity. The modified tablets showed a carbon dioxide adsorption capacity of approximately ۵۰.۷, representing a ۳۰% improvement over conventional tablets. They also demonstrated effective antibacterial properties against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria through a bactericidal mechanism that outperforms standard Gentamicin antibiotic discs. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis indicated that the tablets have a solid mesoporous structure with a V-type adsorption isotherm.
