Core-shell KV@NiFe<sub>۲</sub>O<sub>۴</sub> Catalyst and Its Performance in Dry Reforming of Methane

This study investigates the performance of the core@shell KV@NiFe۲O۴ catalyst and compares it with the conventional NiFe۲O۴ catalyst in the dry reforming of methane. The primary aim of this article is to examine the effect of incorporating a shell onto the bimetallic NiFe۲O۴ catalyst and its impact on catalytic activity in dry reforming of Methane. All catalysts were synthesized with an Fe/Ni=۲ molar ratio and PVA/(Ni+Fe) =۰.۵, with varying weight percentages of the KV shell (۳۰, ۳۵, and ۴۰ wt.%) added to the NiFe۲O۴ catalyst. The catalytic activity, H۲/CO ratio, and stability of the catalysts were evaluated. All samples were synthesized using the sol-gel method and characterized through XRD, BET, SEM, and TGA methods. Catalytic activity tests were conducted at temperatures of ۱۰۷۳ K and ۱۱۲۳ K, at different pressures (۱, ۳, and ۵ atm), in a fixed-bed reactor with a feed containing CH۴/CO۲/N۲ = ۱/۱/۸. The ۳۵KVNF core-shell catalyst containing ۳۵ wt.% KV has the highest performance compared to other core-shell catalysts and conventional NF catalyst at a temperature of ۱۱۲۳ K and a pressure of ۵ atm. This sample demonstrated high stability over a ۷۲-hour reaction period. The enhanced performance is attributed to the high oxygen content in the NiFe۲O۴ catalyst structure and the K۳V۵O۱۴ perovskite shell, which also contains a significant amount of oxygen.
