چکیده مقاله:

Background & aim: Physiological changes experienced during menopause in women adversely affect their mental health and overall quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the mental health status, quality of life, and associated factors in postmenopausal women. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study involving ۴۰۰ postmenopausal women between April ۲۰۲۲ and February ۲۰۲۳ in Urmia, Northwest Iran. To select participants, multiple-stage sampling was employed. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the Symptom Checklist-۹۰ (SCL-۹۰) to measure mental health status, and the Menopausal Quality of Life Questionnaire (MENQOL) through closed interviews. The data was analyzed using Pearson correlation test and backward multiple linear regression model with SPSS version ۱۶.Results: The average age of the participants was ۵۴.۲۶ ± ۳.۵۴ years. In examining the mental status, overall psychological symptoms index was ۱.۴۲ ± ۰.۵۳, and the highest mean was related to the dimension of obsession (۱.۷۴ ± ۰.۷۲). There was a substantial association between postmenopausal women's mental health and educational level, employment, and number of children (P< ۰.۰۵). In examining the quality of life, the total questionnaire score was ۳۵.۷۹±۱۳.۴۹, and the physical dimension (۲۰.۵۰ ± ۸.۴۹) had the highest average. There was a significant association between quality of life and economic position, number of children, and spouse's educational degree (P< ۰.۰۵). Also, there was a substantial positive correlation between mental health and quality of life. Conclusion: Based on results, designing supportive interventions to improve the mental health and quality of life of menopausal women seems essential.
