Review of Emerging Technologies and Startup Innovations in Marine Insurance

The marine insurance industry is undergoing significant digital transformation driven by technologies such as blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), drones, parametric insurance models, and big data analytics. This paper critically reviews these emerging technologies, using case studies including Insurwave, Sea Mountain Insurance, and Parsyl, alongside insights from recently researchers in this topic. We analyze the practical advantages of adopting these technologies, including improved operational efficiency, transparency, and proactive risk management, while also identifying major barriers such as legacy system integration, cybersecurity risks, and regulatory challenges. Finally, this paper proposes future research directions focused on standardization, robust data governance, and sustainability-linked insurance solutions.
